Walking in a LION Wonderland

Building Family & Community at Our Winter Family Day

On Saturday, January 7th, LION Charter School transformed 730 Bryant Avenue’s first and fourth floors into a Winter Wonderland for our families and provided a fun-filled day with opportunities for family growth and community connection. Together, families, students, and staff engaged in shared personal growth activities as part of our character program.

Families started their day reflecting together on their growth in 2022 and their goals for 2023. Next they had their choice of collaborative activities, including creating vision boards, crafting keepsakes, painting while sipping hot chocolate, enjoying a read aloud and scavenger hunt, playing escape the room or family feud, and decorating cookies. Throughout the day, families clad in matching pajamas were also able to capture moments in our photo booth, get their faces painted, and enjoy the bouncy house. Finally, 233 families and over 80 staff gathered together in our auditorium to enjoy performances from our LION Roarers Elementary Choir, led by Natasha Ramos-Morales, Deanna Lindsay, and Phil Godoy (Mr. G) on guitar, and the High School Dance Team led by Kevin Williams with support from LION Alumnus Donavan Rice (Class of 2020).

Family days are an important part of LION’s character program. They provide an opportunity for us to come together as a community two Saturdays a year and continue our essential work of personal growth. At LION, we partner with families and recognize that they are paramount to our community’s success. Together, we have a shared responsibility for learning and a mutual commitment to character growth. Our family days emphasize this commitment, provide further opportunities for growth through reflection and creativity, and foster opportunities for community connection and joy.

We would like to roar out all of our LION staff who worked to provide this wonderful opportunity for our community. Every family member who attended our Winter Family Day left with art, cookies, photos, warmth, smiles, and love. We look forward to seeing you all at our next event, celebrating together as a community, as a family, and as LIONS.
