At LION, we offer a full range of special education services designed to support students in the least restrictive environment. This means we aim to provide support while keeping students in general education classrooms as much as possible, learning alongside their peers.

    Our services include:

Related services, including Occupational Therapy (OT), Physical Therapy (PT), Speech-Language Therapy (SLT), and/or Counseling (CO).

Special Education Teacher Support Services (SETSS), which is support from a special education teacher, in the general education classroom.

Integrated Co-teaching (ICT), where the general education and special education teachers work together to provide specially designed instruction and small group instruction in the general education classroom.

Supplementary aids and services, like a paraprofessional, assistive technology, etc.

Many of our students with IEPs receive related services like Occupational Therapy (OT), Physical Therapy (PT), Speech-Language Therapy (SLT), and/or Counseling (CO).

OT, PT, and Speech Therapy (SLT) are typically provided in person at LION by therapists approved by NYC Public Schools (NYCPS). These therapists are sent through approved outside agencies that contract with NYCPS.

Counseling is provided by school counselors, who are part of our staff.

In some cases, NYCPS may not have a provider available for a specific related service (OT, PT, or Speech). If this happens, the Committee on Special Education (CSE) issues a related service authorization (RSA) voucher to the family to obtain the services outside of the school.
