Our High School (9-12) partners with families through each stage of the college-preparatory process, helping students become the architects of their successful futures.

Students are empowered to develop their leadership and curiosity through challenging coursework, broad extracurricular engagement, community service, and self-reflection.

Meet Our Principal

Matthew Hittenmark

A founding teacher in 2006, Matthew Hittenmark has shaped LION Charter School’s culture through leadership roles in athletics, school operations, and college counseling. During his tenure, he expanded the school’s academic offerings by introducing the AP Capstone and Computer Science programs to the curriculum. Now serving as High School Principal since 2021, Mr. Hittenmark remains dedicated to guiding students from the classroom to long-term post-secondary success.

LION Leaders

Curriculum

English

Starting in 9th and 10th grade, students select from Pre-AP English or Secondary Literacy Societies. The progression in 11th and 12th grade focuses on college-level mastery through AP Language, AP Literature, and AP Research pathways.

Science

Students build their scientific foundation through a core progression of Life Science: Bio, Physical Science, and Chemistry during their first three years. The sequence concludes in the 12th grade with a choice between Zoology and Computer Science.

Math

Students begin their progression with Pre-AP Algebra I or Geometry, advancing through Pre-AP Algebra II. In the 11th and 12th grades, the sequence offers electives in AP Computer Science and Financial Literacy to prepare students for diverse post-secondary paths.

History

The history sequence begins with a foundational focus on Pre-AP Global I, followed by Pre-AP Global II or AP World History. Students advance to US History or AP US History before completing Civics & Economics in their senior year.

Foreign Language

Students begin with Spanish I and Spanish II during the 9th and 10th grades, then advance to Spanish III or AP Spanish for grades 11 and 12.

Performing & Visual Arts

Students explore foundational artistic expression through Pre-AP Dance: Creative Movement or Visual Design. They refine their skills in Modern Dance and Fine Studio Art, culminating in Advanced Dance or AP Art.

Senior Reflection

Throughout senior year, seniors engage in a process of self-reflection. Seniors consider and receive feedback about their character growth, family dynamics, academic performance, and hopes and fears for their future.
