On Saturday, September 9th, LION hosted our annual Back to School Family Day. Family Days are special Saturdays during which the entire LION community come together as an extension of the character and academic work we do all year long. The first Family Day of the year allowed families to meet LION faculty and staff, participate in engaging activities, and learn about the academic program of each division.
The Elementary School kicked off the school year with a carnival-themed Family Day. Staff served popcorn and slushies, facilitated games, captured special moments in the photo booth, and participated alongside LION families with their own family members. As Director of Family Engagement Brezhnev Sanchez noted, “The inspiration was to build a sense of community with our families and staff.”
The Middle School continued the carnival theme with the aroma of cotton candy and popcorn filling the hallways. From an egg drop challenge to math games, each classroom offered a different activity to introduce another academic concept, proving that learning can be fun and rewarding. Middle School Director Ada Garcia remarked that “A highlight of the event was seeing the inner child in many of the families as they competed for prizes, and then seeing the pride in students as they watched their family members engage in part of their school life.”
The High School offered families the opportunity to experience a day in the life of their students through a unique class-to-class tour following their students’ schedules. Family members were able to meet teachers and staff, engage with content as their students would, and ask any questions about their children’s courses. Director of Family Engagement Paola Bautista shared, “It was heartwarming to see everyone come together, get to know each other better, and gain a deeper understanding of students’ classes.”
We look forward to engaging with our LION families throughout the year and can’t wait to see everyone again for our next Family Day this spring!
