FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
Each charter school runs its own lottery and enrollment process. Families can expect to receive notification of your lottery results directly from the schools you chose after the lottery.
If a charter school receives more applications than it has seats available, then the school is required by law to run a randomized lottery to admit students. All students who submitted an application will automatically be entered in the admissions lottery. Charter school lotteries are typically held in April and May. Applicants whose names are not drawn in the lottery are placed on a waiting list and may be contacted as seats become available.
Charter school applications and lottery procedures are governed by state law and regulations. Each charter school’s enrollment practices are overseen by its authorizer: either the New York State Board of Regents, the SUNY Board of Trustees, or the NYC Schools Chancellor.
All Application forms must be received by April 1st. No applications will be accepted after April 1st.
Student applications are available from Kindergarten to 10th grade through the Common Application and our PDF application (linked in the buttons above). All prospective students and families need to apply to the school lottery by attending an information session or by filling out an application online. For more information, please call us at (718) 991-5500 or email the Admissions Office.
There will be a lottery to create the enrollment and waitlist for Kindergarten and the waitlists for 1st through 10th grades. Available spaces are first offered to children of our staff; followed by siblings of current students; then children who live in District 8 and finally families in New York City outside of District 8.
